Generation of Synthetic 4D Cardiac CT Images for Guidance of Minimally Invasive Beating Heart Interventions

چکیده
Off-pump beating heart surgery requires a guidance system that would show both pertinent cardiac anatomy and dynamic motion both periand intra-operatively. Optimally, the guidance system should show high quality images and models in a cost-effective way and can be easily integrated into standard clinical workflow. However, such a goal is difficult to accomplish by a single image modality. In this paper we introduce a method of generating a synthetic 4D cardiac CT dataset using a single (static) CT, along with 4D ultrasound images. These synthetic images can be combined with intra-operative ultrasound during the surgery to provide an intuitive and effective augmented virtuality guidance system. The generation method obtains patient specific cardiac motion information by performing non-rigid registrations between pre-operative 4D ultrasound images and applies the deformation to a static CT image to deform it into a series of dynamic CT images. Validations was performed by comparing the synthetic CT images to real

Cardiac Endoscopy Enhanced by Dynamic Organ Modeling for Minimally-Invasive Surgery Guidance
The development of a 3D image guidance environment will significantly enhance the performance of minimally invasive robotically assisted cardiac surgery. We have previously reported early progress on generation of such virtual environment, and linking it with traditional modalities like endoscopy. This paper discusses one aspect of the surgical navigation system: near-real time animation of the...
متن کاملDynamic organ modeling for minimally-invasive cardiac surgery
While most currently available minimally invasive robotically assisted cardiac surgical systems do not employ 3D image guidance, such support can be generated using pre operative images such as CT. Previously we demonstrated a virtual model of the thorax with simulated surgical instruments, and a pulsating virtual model of the coronary arteries. In this paper we report the overlay of optical en...
متن کامل4D Motion Modeling of the Coronary Arteries from CT Images for Robotic Assisted Minimally Invasive Surgery
In this paper, we present a novel approach for coronary artery motion modeling from cardiac Computed Tomography(CT) images. The aim of this work is to develop a 4D motion model of the coronaries for image guidance in robotic-assisted totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass (TECAB) surgery. To utilize the pre-operative cardiac images to guide the minimally invasive surgery, it is essential to ...
متن کاملAugmented Reality Image Guidance for Minimally Invasive Coronary Artery Bypass
We propose a novel system for image guidance in totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass (TECAB). A key requirement is the availability of 2D-3D registration techniques that can deal with non-rigid motion and deformation. Image guidance for TECAB is mainly required before the mechanical stabilization of the heart, thus the most dominant source of non-rigid deformation is the motion of the beat...
متن کاملUltrasound-based technique for intra-thoracic surgical guidance
Image-guided procedures within the thoracic cavity require accurate registration of a pre-operative virtual model to the patient. Currently, surface landmarks are used for thoracic cavity registration; however, this approach is unreliable due to skin movement relative to the ribs. An alternative method for providing surgeons with image feedback in the operating room is to integrate images acqui...
